I have been an educator for 30 years in a variety of roles in various districts. Currently, I am a District Principal with Gold Trail School District focusing most of my time on pedagogy and instructional leadership, but am often working in educational resources including educational technology and, most recently, AI. With a Masters of Educational Leadership focusing my research on formative assessment and a Transformative Education Leadership Program Certificate, I led schools as Vice Principal and Principal in Rocky Mountain and Kamloops-Thompson School Districts. A common thread to my work as an educator is the rural setting, supporting teachers in myriad roles in and outside of their areas of expertise. I continue to do so in my current role. In addition to my work in School Districts, I have led school leadership learning in the Northwest Territories for a number of years, and taught alongside Dr. Nicole Davey at Vancouver Island University. Relationships, responsiveness, and curiosity are foundational to my work. The commitment to building relationships has built a foundation of lifelong professional colleagues who work together to build a stronger education system and graduate more curious citizens who have a desire to make the world a better place. A commitment to responsiveness has resulted in just right initiatives and supports to move address gaps in teaching and support innovation and inquiry throughout the systems in which I serve. I approach my work with wonder, striving to serve students in the best ways we know, with the most equitable and informed actions, focused on students crossing the stage with dignity, purpose and options.

Educational Technology
I have been an educator for over 25 years, with much of that time spent in a 1:1 or BYOD environment. I currently work in the West Vancouver School District where I am the District Vice Principal of Innovation and Technology. I have a Masters Degree in Educational Technology from UBC. In addition, I am a 2023 recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence, an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Google for Education Certified Trainer and an Adjunct Professor at UBC. I have spent the last five years studying AI and its potential educational applications and implications in K to 12 learning spaces.

I began my teaching career in 2004 as a secondary English teacher in the Delta School District, located on the traditional territory of the Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam Indian Band. I hold a Master of Education in Language and Literacy Education from UBC and am a graduate of UBC’s Transformative Educational Leadership Program. Since 2012, I have worked in Delta’s Learning Services Department supporting teacher learning and growth. I spent more than a decade leading Delta’s Teacher Mentorship Program and contributed to mentorship initiatives at the provincial level through the New Teacher Mentorship Project, the Provincial Mentorship Resource Team and Teacher Mentorship BC. Today, I serve as Delta’s Coordinator of Inclusive Literacy Practices for Secondary Schools. I love bringing educators together to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another. I am especially committed to sharing practical tools, strategies, and routines that educators can adapt and use right away to support student learning. I believe that when educators foster strong relationships, create inclusive learning environments, and remain responsive to the needs of their learners, they create a climate where both students and teachers thrive.
